NeurofeedbackNeurofeedback, also called EEG Biofeedback, is brain training to increase self-regulation and resiliency.  The brain functions using electrical waves of various sizes and speeds. We have found that certain very slow brain waves help the brain have a nice resting state.  When the brain has this grounded resting state, you are able to handle whatever happens to you in life with much more ease. This is what we mean by resiliency.

Many people’s resting state has been compromised by trauma, depression, anxiety, exceptional stress, even challenges from birth (like migraine headaches). Neurofeedback can help. Neurofeedback helps the brain gradually learn to function more efficiently.

We work towards affecting the resting state so your brain can move into a more efficient way of being. Our work allows the new habits we introduce to actually reward the brain for changing its own activity to more appropriate patterns so it’s more likely to stay with the new behaviors in the future.

This “brain training” teaches the brain how to handle stress and difficult situations that are inevitable in life. This amazing work allows the brain to operate on a healthier level. Neurofeedback addresses the numerous problems of brain dysregulation. They include post-traumatic stress  (PTSD), anxiety, depression, attention deficits, behavior disorders, various sleep disorders, headaches and migraines, PMS and emotional disturbances. It is helpful in treating organic brain conditions such as seizures, the autism spectrum, and cerebral palsy as well.

“Our intellectual abilities and emotional resources can be considerably enhanced with neurofeedback training,” says Siegfried Othmer, Ph.D.  That is why it is also often used for peak performance training.

I use a water soluble paste to apply electrodes to the scalp which feed brainwave activity into my computer.  The computer processes this important brainwave information by promoting some brain waves and diminishing others. We present the information about your brain waves back to you in the form of a video game, a calming moving picture, or a movie. Eventually, the work we do leads the brainwave activity towards a “shape” that is more desirable, showing less depression, stress, and anxiety.

The specific brain waves and locations on the scalp where we listen in on the brain, change depending on what problem we are trying to address, and are also different for each person. The nervous system begins to transform and awakens to a new life.  Over time, you are able to realize your true potential.
