Teletherapy Options & Online Individual Counseling In Santa Monica, CA

We are all feeling tapped out by so much change.  The pandemic has caused anxiety, financial stress, and shaped our sense of independence.  You can often feel alone and isolated from friends and family.

Humans are social beings, and being isolated can make you feel abandoned, even when you aren’t. There is so much loss and feelings of helplessness.  It’s hard to maintain a positive attitude and feel empowered and in control of your life.

Teletherapy can help you stay connected and develop a sense of routine.  Prioritizing emotional wellness can assist in surviving this difficult time.  Teletherapy is not as bad as you think!   Instead of feeling distanced, I was surprised that I can feel closer when I’m doing online therapy.

FAQ

With teletherapy, you log into an online “room” or portal to attend the therapy session. It is basically a video conferencing platform. We are able to see each other, face-to-face, and communicate just as we would in my office.

I send you an email with the portal link in it. At the pre-agreed time of our session, you just click on the link. Then, you will be guided to my private therapy portal waiting room where we will have our online session. Once you are in my “waiting room”, I will receive notice that you are waiting and I will start the session.

You might want to prop the phone or device at eye level so you can be comfortable. That way, you don’t have to hold it. Pick a comfy place to sit. Remember to have your device charged ahead of time. That way, you don’t have to be near an outlet or find your charger last minute. Have a glass of water, just in case. Be in a room with as much privacy as possible, so you can share whatever you need to. If you prefer headphones, have them handy. These also improve privacy.

I do about half of my sessions through online therapy. There are some people who have tried EMDR teletherapy and find it ineffective. If you are struggling with this, we can set up a time for you to come into my Torrance or Santa Monica office for sessions.

Yes, you must come into the office for neurofeedback.  I put electrodes on your head, so this is impossible to do online. So, I provide in-person neurofeedback.  If you like this method, or would like to try it, I provide in-person office hours.

To keep us both safe, masks are worn at all times during sessions.  I also use a UV light device that sanitizes the whole office every 3 clients.  This takes 30 minutes.  I provide hand sanitizer and regularly wipe down doorknobs and other areas that are routinely touched.

I ask all clients to stay home from the session if you feel sick or running a fever.  It’s better to err on the side of safety, so even if you feel a little bit sick, it’s better to stay home.

I offer teletherapy anywhere in California.

You will need a cell phone or computer with a good internet connection.  It’s also helpful to have headphones or earbuds.  This will help keep your audible experience more private.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge.  The on-line teletherapy portals are HIPAA compliant and legal.
